I wrote a 732-word fic from Bucky’s perspective based on this gorgeous art by florbe91. The story is, uh, apparently pretty good? Based on the response I’ve seen so far? So if you’d like to inflict some Stucky feels on yourself, have a look at “Post-Mission Protocol.”
Here’s a bit:
The Asset watched the Target fall. Distance: greater than thirty five meters, landing surface: river, probable result: impact forces result in brain damage/organ failure, death by major organ failure. Second most probable result: impact forces result in brain damage/organ failure, unconsciousness. Death by drowning.
"You know me."
Around him, the Helicarrier shuddered toward the earth. He had been unable to stop the Target from replacing the guidance chip; but that had not been the Mission. The Mission had been to eliminate the Target.
"You’ve known me your whole life."
His weak arm was dislocated, nearly useless. The pain was background noise, like the heat of the flames overhead, like the screams of metal breaking and bending.

While Johansson’s first Marvel appearance in Iron Man 2 may have relied somewhat upon sex appeal, this was quickly nixed in favor of characterizing her as the most cerebral Avenger. Her most important scenes in The Avengers relied upon her intelligence and skills as a spy, to the extent that she even managed to outwit Loki, the God of Lies. At the end of the movie, she’s the one who closes the portal that let all the aliens into New York. Then in Winter Soldier she’s given second billing to Captain America, a meaty role that showcases a wide-ranging skillset that stretches far beyond just “kicking ass.” At no point during any of these movies does she seduce anyone, by the way.
Sadly, there’s very little sign of this character in the most easily accessible reviews of both The Avengers and Winter Soldier. Judging by the Guardian, WSJ, or New Yorker, Black Widow is more like a blow-up doll with a black belt. By their logic, if she’s wearing a tight outfit, then she must be a sexy ass-kicker, meaning that she must be the token female character, and therefore is little more than eye candy.
With that thought process in mind, it must make perfect sense to relegate Black Widow to a single sniggering comment about her catsuit, because obviously Scarlett Johansson is just there for decoration. And if you’ve read in the New York Times that Black Widow is a token female character, then chances are you’ll have internalized that opinion before you even buy a ticket. The feedback loop of misogynist preconceptions continues on, and in the end, we all lose out.
Adrianne Haslet-Davis dances again for the first time since the Boston terrorist attack last year.
When the bombs went off at the Boston Marathon finish line, Adrianne Haslet-Davis lost the lower half of her left leg in the explosion. She’s a ballroom dance teacher, and she assumed she would never dance again. With most prosthetics, she wouldn’t.
But Hugh Herr, of the MIT Media Lab, wanted to find a way to help her. He created a bionic limb specifically for dancers, studying the way they move and adapting the limb to fit their motion. (He explains how he did it here.)
At TED2014, Adrianne danced for the first time since the attack, wearing the bionic limb that Hugh created for her.
Hugh says, “It was 3.5 seconds between the bomb blasts in the Boston terrorist attack. In 3.5 seconds, the criminals and coward took Adrianne off the dance floor. In 200 days, we put her back. We will not be intimidated, brought down, diminished, conquered or stopped by acts of violence.”
Amen to that, Hugh.

Daily steam - putting out the garbage bins while wearing heels, a corset and top hat. Neighbors seemed to enjoy the show.
(realized I’d better edit this to add that I was, in fact, wearing other pieces of clothes besides just a corset, heels, and top hat. Those were just the most notable pieces of the outfit)
Heading out shortly for day 2 of Norwescon!
